SRINAGAR: Police on Friday fired warning shots to scare away groups of youth, who pelted stones on their bus in main town Baramulla.
Reports said that groups of youth this afternoon took staged pro-freedom demonstration at bus stand. Besides chanting slogans, the protesters also hurled stones on a police bus (JK15-1039) that was on way to the town from Sheeri.
The cops, reports said, fired shots in air to scare away the youth, who continued stone pelting attacks on them. The ensuing clashes, reports said, triggered panic in the busy marketplace prompting the traders to close their shops and run towards the safer places.
The clashes also affected the movement of traffic on the road.
Meanwhile, violent clashes broke out in Bandipore district against the curbs on Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani. Police and CRPF troopers resorted to cane charge and fired tear smoke shells to disperse protesters, who hurled stones at them. The clashes continued for several hours. However, no one was injured.
