SRINAGAR: A Pulwama contractor who had been abducted by gunmen on Friday evening was found shot dead late the same night, his native village reeling under a wave of fear.
Muhammad Shafi Dar (40) of Aglar was found dead near a bus stop in the Akhaal area, some 12 km from his home, the police said.
He was found with a bullet wound in his body, it said.
The police and the armys 53 RR had thrown a dragnet in the area immediately after Dars family reported his abduction at around 5 on Friday evening, reports said.
According to the contractors kin, two gunmen had burst into his house, and forced Dar, a father of four children, out with them.
The gunmen were two in number, his family said. We pleaded with them, we shouted for help, but no one came to our rescue.
Today, the police handed Dars body over to his family for last rights after legal formalities.
A case of abduction and murder has been registered by the local police which has also launched a hunt for the killers.
