SRINAGAR: Branding it as lawlessness and political vengeance, Hurriyat Conference (G) has said the successive detention orders against Masarat Alam were a sheer violation of law.

In an appeal to Amnesty International, the Hurriyat faction has called for its intervention in the matter and impressed upon it to take cognizance in said case.

Meanwhile, expressing deep concern and grief over the revelation of unmarked graves in central Kashmir in district Budgam, the spokesman said that international bodies should take serious note of the statement released by  non-political organization ,Voice of Victims’. “ Masarat Alam is a well-known leader and the authorities did not even consider the court orders and exhibit their impudence .They are taking the revenge as Masarat Alam has played effective role and  had remained most active during peoples uprising in  year2010”, the spokesman added.

Terming the Public Safety Act as barbaric he said that the act was framed to deal with timber smugglers and latter it was   used by Sheikh Mohammad Abdulla, Farooq Abdullah, Gh Mohamad Shah, Farooq Abdullah and Omer Abdullah to curb the political activities of pro-freedom leaders. “Its use is unabated with an intention to suppress the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The administration has made it a tool against its opponents including the profreedom leaders and even the innocent students are not spared.”, he added.

He said Chief Minister Omer Abdullah must explain and justify the imposition of the said punitive law. “He should come out with an answer and explain and justify implying the  said law against pro-freedom leader Masarat Alam”,

Calling the state police as an armed wing of the National conference government, spokesman in his statement said, “Police without any delay detains those people who instead of maintaining silence expose their heinous acts and atrocities”.

Criticising the authorities, spokesman said though the Amnesty International has termed the said safety Act as a lawless law but the administration is not in a mood to change its stubborn stance and the imposition of said draconian law is still in vogue.
