Muzaffarabad: In a landmark ruling, a full-court bench of Pakistan controlled Kashmir Supreme Court Saturday allowed a refugee from Indian side of Kashmir to contest elections.
The decision of the court has opened the doors for all refugees from Indian controlled part of Kashmir settled in Pakistan to contest elections in any constituency of Pakistan administered Kashmir.
According to Pakistani media reports, full court bench of PcK headed by Chief Justice Muhammad Azam Khan gave a verdict in favour of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Secretary General Shah Ghulam Qadir, allowing him to contest elections from the Neelum Valley.
The apex court according to media reports gave the decision on an appeal filed by the PML-N leader against the PcK High Court order of 2013. The high court had earlier directed the PcK Election Commission to reject papers of Qadir on the grounds that he was a refugee from the Indian Kashmir. (CNS)
