SRINAGAR: Leh registered a minimum of minus 9.4 degrees Celsius while the nearby Kargil town recorded a low of minus 10.2 degrees Celsius becoming the coldest recorded place in the state, a spokesman of the MeT Department here said.
Capital Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 0.5 degrees Celsius.
The night temperature in the city appreciated to remain above the freezing point for the first time in weeks, even as other places in the Valley and Ladakh region continued to experience sub-zero nights, he said.
He said the city, which was experiencing sub-zero nights for the past few weeks, had recorded a low of minus 2.2 degrees Celsius the previous night and had registered the season’s low of minus 4.4 degrees Celsius on Thursday.
There was respite in the cold wave conditions in parts of the state.
However, the minimum temperature continued to remain below the freezing point, he said.
Qazigund recorded a low of minus 2.4 degrees Celsius, while the south Kashmir town of Kokernag registered a minimum temperature of minus 0.2 degrees Celsius.
The tourist resorts of Pahalgam and the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north each registered a minimum of minus 3.0 degrees Celsius.
Kupwara town settled at a low of minus 3.1 degrees Celsius, he said.
The MeT department has predicted light rain or snow at isolated places in the state.
