Students boycott classes, stage protest

SSM College announces ‘Shaheed Gowhar Nazir’ scholarship
PARIHASPORA: The students from SSM College of Engineering Tuesday continued to stage protests against the killing their class-fellow Gowhar Nazir who was shot dead by CRPF personnel from 44 Battalion located at HMT Srinagar.
Eyewitnesses said that during noon hours, scores of students assembled in college premises and tried to take out a procession on Parihaspora Pattan road, however, the College authorities stopped them and requested not to resort to violent means.
Students raising pro-freedom slogans were demanding stringent punishment for the killers. They blocked the road, prompting police to fire tear-smoke shells.
Reports said that many students were injured in police action. “Even Jammu and Kashmir Police have admitted that the killer CRPF personnel murdered an innocent civilian who was not a stone-thrower, then why delay in booking them under section 302,” protesting students said.
Reports said that students after boycotting the classes took to streets and staged a massive protest demanding immediate action against the killers of Gowhar Nazir.
Meanwhile, the College administration has decided to announce a scholarship ‘Shaheed Gowhar Nazir’ in memory of the slain college student. The head of the College Dil Afroza Qazi told CNS that this scholarship will be given to an orphan student every year on the day of his killing. “Any orphan after qualifying the test will be given this scholarship,” she said.
