KUPWARA: Demanding transfer of DC Kupwara, members of the Kupwara Bar Association who are on strike from past three days Friday held protest demonstrations here.
The lawyers allege that the District Development Commissioner humiliated a relative of a lawyer associated with Bar Association and got him arrested.
DC Kupwara while refuting the allegation said that the person along with many other people had come to his office in connection with some work and wanted him (DC) to extend favour without following the rule book. I simply asked them to follow procedure, he said. But they were not ready to listen and instead tried to manhandle me. So I lodged an FIR against them and police took action.
SP Kupwara Aijaz Ahmad Bhat confirmed that an FIR was lodged against the person who tried to manhandle DC Kupwara.
Meanwhile, Teachers Forum Kupwara extended its support to the striking lawyers.
