Srinagar: Expressing serious concern over increase in road accidents, CPI (M) State Secretary and MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami Thursday said that the situation has put a question mark over traffic arrangements.
Talking to Kashmir News Service Tarigami said, Thousands of people have lost their lives due to the road accidents and the rate of deaths on roads is increasing every day. But it is a pity that the government after every painful accident conveys condolences and sympathies with the bereaved families rather than taking effective steps to check such horrible deaths.
Everything is left unattended by the inefficient authorities. Governments callousness is responsible for the increasing number of accidents in the state, he alleged.
The MLA Kulgam said a House Committee headed by him following mounting number of accidents in Jammu and Kashmir had submitted a detailed report before the government but unfortunately the same is gathering dust.
The recommendations put forth by the committee headed by me have not been implemented so far. This is unfortunate and utter callousness on part of the state administration which owes an explanation on the latest fatal road accident, Tarigami said.
He said several years have passed since the panel submitted its report, but the government is yet to come out with its action taken report on the recommendations. This speaks volumes about the government’s indifferent attitude towards this serious humanitarian crisis, he alleged.
It is a situation which demands immediate measures and attention of all of us especially the officers of transport department, traffic police and Border Roads Organisation to put an end to the accidents in the hilly districts, he added.
Emphasizing the need to improve the condition of roads, Tarigami said, The roads are in dilapidated condition which is another reason for these accidents.
