Baramulla: The Forest Department on Monday suspended two of its officials who were accused of conspiring with timber smugglers in Rafiabad area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said.
The action came after a police party led by Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rafiabad Wajahat Hussain seized huge quantity of illegal timber in Kutrie nala compartment number 42 in Rafiabad.
A police official said that after receiving specific input, the police party led by the SDPO Rafiabad and SHO Panzulla raided the house of Hamidullah Mir and recovered 10 feet of illegal timber and based in his disclosure, about 270 feet timber was recovered near in the nearby area.
Soon after the seizure, the forest officials including DFO Langate reached on the spot and took stock of the situation.
Meanwhile, Forest Conservator North Kashmir, Mir Javaid, confirmed the suspension of two forest officials and identified them as Farooq Ahmad and Ghulam Ahmad.
Police have registered a case under FIR number 9/2015 under section Forest Act and started further investigations. (GNS)
