Srinagar: Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) senior leader and General Secretary Advocate Nazir Ahmad Malik Monday castigated Hindustan Construction Company for terminating the services of more than 250 local labourers and employees in Kishanganga Hydroelectric Power Project.
In a statement Malik said, It is sheer injustice on part of HCC to terminate services of about 285 local employees on one hand and keep in tacit the services of non-local employees. HCC derives all benefits from Kashmir but mistreats local populace and this termination proves it. It is also a fact that the bulk of local employees working with HCC in Kashmir have not been provided with any sort of employment letters which is clear cut violation of given labour & employment rules and regulations. It is also known fact the company for a majority of time made its employees to work under contractors and sub-contractors and thus reminding one of the bleak labour environment situation prevailing in the HCC.
Malik maintained that on environmental side, one is already aware that HCC has been a virtual catastrophe for the serene environ of Bandipore.
It is a burning act that HCC diverts the chemically polluted water into the nearby beautiful and important streams of the area thus polluting Madhumati River, which is the main water source for whole Bandipore Township, and adjoining villages and all this has continuously made local population horrified, he alleged.
