Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (M) Saturday termed the recent statement of Amnesty International where it has condemned the abuse of infamous Public Safety Act (PSA) in Jammu and Kashmir, saying it violates right of the victims, as a reflection of reality.
In a statement the Hurriyat (M) said, The unbridled powers vested with the government forces under draconian laws like PSA and AFSPA continue to be the main cause of gross human rights violations in Kashmir adding, such powers vested with the Indian troops has also in a number of instances resulted in the killing of innocent souls.
AFSPA has acted as a shield for the accused army personnel, operating in Kashmir, in various human rights violation cases and is one of the main reasons why the accused have never been brought to justice or punished for their heinous crimes, he said.
Referring to awarding of life sentence to one more accused in Machil (Kupwara) fake encounter case, the spokesman said, The court martial and the sentence awarded to the culprits in the same case previously was not carried out because the Northern Command of Army did not ratify the punishment which indicates that the whole process so far has proved to be nothing more than propaganda of the government about the safe guard of human rights.
