Srinagar: President J&K Pradesh Congress Committee and former Minister Ghulam Ahmad Mir was accorded rousing reception on his arrival here by party leaders and workers on his arrival from Jammu.
He was brought to the PCC headquarters followed by a long cavalcade of vehicles. Leaders of the Congress and workers welcomed him at the party HQ and profusely garlanded him, raising slogans, a party spokesman said in a statement.
Prof. Saifuddin Soz Former Union Minister and former ministers Peerzada Mohammad Syed and Taj Mohi U Din accompanied Mir at JKPCC Headquarters.
While speaking on the occasion Prof Soz wished Mir all success and hoped he will succeed in his mission.
Senior PCC leaders thanked the AICC President Sonia Gandhi, Vice President Shri Rahul Gandhi, Ambika Soni-General Secretary AICC Incharge J&K Affairs for appointing him the head of the J&K PCC. The speakers extended their full co-operation and support to the Mir to strengthen Congress unit in the state as per wishes of the Congress high command.
They praised his leadership qualities and organizational skills and his efforts to carry along all party men in the state, in order to make Congress a number one party in the state.
While addressing the gathering Mir thanked the rank and file of the Party for their enthusiastic welcome to him today. He said that it was a gesture of love and affection and he has no words to express thanks.
Mir said that Congress is vibrant situation in all the three regions of the state and it has to play a vital role in the state and all Congressmen have to realize their responsibilities in the situation keeping in view the historical role played by party, in the state and the Country as well, in the past and its responsibility to facilitate a vigorous dialogue between the leaders of all the three regions of the state, on all issues relating to the party in order to ensure further strengthening the Congress party in Jammu and Kashmir.
Mir said Congress feels duty bound to respect the urges and aspirations of the people of all three regions of the state and is fully committed for equal development of all the three regions of the state and its people. He said Congress has never believed in hollow slogans and false propaganda, whatever we do, we do in the interest of the people, he said.
