62 paramedics transferred, more heads to roll
SRINAGAR: A complete shutdown was observed Thursday in Pulwama town against the deaths due to alleged negligence of two pregnant women this week.
Authorities have so far transferred at least sixty two paramedics to cool down the tempers.
Eyewitnesses said that all shops and business establishments remained closed in main town Pulwama due to a spontaneous shutdown, a day after another pregnant woman Khursheeda Akhter, wife of Ghulam Rasool Bhat of Lehjoora died due to the alleged negligence of the doctors at the district hospital.
Before Khursheeda, another woman Rukhsana Akhter, wife of Imtiyaz Bhat of Wahibugh, Pulwama had also died, hours after doctors operated upon her. Her newborn also died triggering off strong protests by the residents.
Mounting public pressure forced the district administration to order a probe into the allegations of negligence by the doctors.
Acting swiftly, the Deputy Director Health Services attached two doctors Dr Tasleema, Dr Tahira and a staff nurse Miss Tahria Rasool with BMO Sopores office
We observed shutdown to protest against the careless attitude of the doctors that have caused death of two mothers and a baby in the last three days. The doctors pay no attention to the serious patients and instead are engaged in gossips. This has to stop, Abdul Gaffar, a trader alleged.
He said that the locals want the staff of the hospital to be removed and responsible staffers to be posted at the hospital after the two consecutive deaths that have caused scare and anxiety among the people.
Meanwhile, the authorities today transferred 62 paramedics at the hospital following anger against the alleged negligence of the hospital administration. The decision in this regard was taken in a meeting that was held at the office of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama. Deputy Director Health Services, Kashmir, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Pulwama and other health officials also attended the meeting. (GNS)
