Discusses security situation, issues instructions to top brass
JAMMU: Eleven days after taking over the reigns of the state government, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Syed Thursday chaired first meeting of Unified Headquarters .
Sayeed, who is chairman of the Unified Command, chaired the meeting of highest security body in the state, at his official residence here. Sayeed assured those present that his government will build and consolidate on the peace established by the security agencies in the state, sources said.
Entire range of security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir including the situation in internal areas to the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB), working of counter-infiltration grid, number of militants within the State and their capability to strike and measures taken by all security agencies to maintain peace in the State were discussed in the meeting, one of the officials who was part of the meeting said.
Sayeed was given various presentations by the security agencies including the Army and intelligence officials.
The meeting was attended by GOC-in-C Northern Command, GOC 16 Corps, GOC 15 corps, DGP J&K, IG BSF, IG CRPF, senior officers of IB and RAW besides the Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh and top civil officials.
Sources said that in the wake of controversy shrouding release of Masarat Alam, the release of other political prisoners were not part of the Unified Headquarters meeting. Only security situation and related aspects and steps to strengthen intelligence and security mechanism, co-ordination among various security agencies and related matters were discussed, they said.
During the meeting, Sayeed thanked the security agencies and the army for ensuring smooth conduct of peaceful elections in the state, official sources said.
“You have given us a suitable environment for elections and now its the duty of my government to build on this peace,” Sayeed said.
Sources added the Chief Minister passed directions to all security agencies on the steps required to be taken while dealing with different kind of situation especially during the law and order.
