Srinagar: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) today expressed its dismay over lack of comprehensive health policy for people of Jammu and Kashmir in the agenda document of coalition government.
President DAK Dr Nisar ul Hassan said it is lack of health policy that is responsible for sufferings and miseries of people of state.
The insensitiveness of previous policy makers towards the critical sector is responsible for healthcare mess which is in a state of complete disorder, DAK spokesperson in a statement said.
The crucial health sector is run on adhocism which has adversely affected patient care as incharge favorite officials spend their whole time in appeasing their masters who help them to retain their positions, he said.
These incharge health officials have converted health sector into an industry of favoritism, nepotism and corruption, he said.
Public in rural areas are deprived of quality healthcare at doorstep who are referred to tertiary care hospitals for simple ailments which undermines their purpose of research and teaching, he said.
Though AIIMS in Kashmir is welcome but dip in recent health sector budget allocation by 5.7% is unwelcome. The state budgetary allocation and public expenditure on health has been minuscule which has told upon patient care, he said.
Government has to recognize the importance of health and is duty bound to equitable, affordable, accountable and efficient patient care.
DAK urges new government to come out with a comprehensive health policy and do away with adhocism in health sector which is the root cause of healthcare mess, he added.
