Srinagar: Police on Tuesday arrested a senior transport officer on charges of assaulting a Congress legislator in Bandipora district of north Kashmir.
Official sources told GNS that ARTO Bandipora, Tariq Ahmad Bhat of Tangmarg was arrested by police today after Congress MLA; Usman Majid moved a written complaint before the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Shah Faisal alleging that the transport officer last week misbehaved with him and tried to assault him physically. The transport officer has been lodged at the police station Bandipora. A case Fir No 30/2015 341, 353, 506, RPC has been registered against him.
A senior official of the district administration told GNS that frequent complaints of misconduct by the ARTO have been recieved in the recent past.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) north, Gareeb Daas told GNS that the ARTO was arrested on the formal complaint lodged by the Congress MLA.
Meanwhile, Usman Majid expressed his gratitude to the district administration for acting prompty on his complaint.
