Army Sounds Alert in Kupwara

SRINAGAR: Army has sounded an alert in the frontier Kupwara district of north Kashmir following intelligence reports about the presence of a group of militants in the main town.

Official sources said that army’s 41 RR and Special Operations Group (SOG) of police were maintaining high alert in the main town amid specific intelligence inputs that suggest 2-3 heavily armed militants, who attacked an army convoy at Drugmulla earlier this month. The militants, sources said, have come down from Lolab hills ahead of Chilai Kalan, the harshest 40-day period of winters.

“Army and SOG have inputs that the militants are hiding in main town. However, the militants keep on changing their location on daily basis. In the main town, highest vigil is being maintained to prevent the militants from carrying out a strike,” sources said.

Besides main town, sources said, search operations were also in progress in densely forested area of Chandigam, Warnow, Regnag in Lolab sector of the district where army believes many militants were hiding.
