SRINAGAR: To review the progress and functioning of Srinagar Municipal Corporation, a meeting of officers of different wings of SMC was held under the Chairmanship of Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies, Nawang Rigzin Jora, here today.
The meeting discussed threadbare various schemes being executed in Srinagar city.
The Minister exhorted upon the officers to ensure that all activities being executed under their respective wings are done within the specified timeframe. He asked them to conduct regular site visits and make sure that quality and quantity of works is maintained at all levels.
On the occasion, the Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Dr. G.N. Qasba apprised the Minister about the progress and functioning of various ongoing schemes launched by the corporation for making Srinagar City green and clean, through a power point presentation.
Dr. Qasba told the meeting that various steps have been taken for the improvement of solid waste management, drainage and sewerage system besides beautification of Srinagar city. He also informed that Rs. 8 crores were realized as revenue from various activities by the SMC during current financial year upto December last.
The Minister stressed upon the concerned officers to provide all the services being rendered by the SMC in more efficient manner and implement Public Services Guarantee Act (PSGA) strictly so that people do not.
Mr. Jora enjoined upon the SMC authorities to make the best use of E-governance so that common masses can get building permissions, death and birth certificates, E-tendering and all other necessary documents without any difficulty at their door steps. He urged for opting such mechanism so that people can apply online for any document and feedback and clearance should also be available online.
Emphasizing for taking benefit of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the Minister urged upon the SMC to use solar lights in streets which can help in conservation of electricity.
On the occasion a deputation of employees union called upon the Minister and put forth various demands before him. The Minister gave patient hearing to the deputation and assured them that their genuine demands would be redressed at an earliest
Meanwhile, Mr. Jora paid extensive visit of Srinagar city and inspected various works executed by SMC at, Gurdwara, Court Road, Ghanta Ghar areas of Lal Chowk and directed for repairing of street lights and renovation of park near Ghanta Ghar so that road could be widened to curb the traffic jam.
Later, Mr. Jora visited Community Facilitation Centre Rozabal Khanyar, Zindashah Sports Stadium and Slaughter house at Rainawari and appreciated the works executed by SMC.
