Budgam: Anjuman Sharie Shiayan Wednesday castigated authorities for detaining Shia mourners and booking them under Unlawful Activities Act.
The spokesperson of the organization said that the brute force applied on the mourners has no justification in today’s world. He said mourners were not only beaten up, but slapped with frivolous charges, while dozens are lying in the hospitals for the injuries inflicted on them by police.
The spokesperson said that Anjuman Sharie will provide all legal aid to those who have been arrested for taking part in Muharram processions.
“Both civil and police administration failed to implement the ‘model’ that we had proposed to them to contain Covid-19 infection. Instead, they used brute force and dealt ruthlessly with the mourners,” he said adding that property too was damaged by police during Muharram processions.
“A large number of mourners have been arrested from Zadibal, Bemina, Budgam and other areas and their relatives who wait outside different police stations are being humiliated.”
“Anjuman Shari demands the immediate release of these mourners and urges police and civil administration to stop witch-hunting,” the statement concludes.
