Reference to the KO report on the arbitrary fee hike by private schools in the Kashmir valley particularly by the elite schools have badly hit the parents and authorities do not seem bothered. On the contrary the recent statement by the Director School Education in which he stated that the private schools have not sought any approval from his office for the fee hike amply makes it clear that the said department does like to intervene in the affairs of private schools for obvious reasons.
The school managements have never ever sought any approval from education department for hike in fee since they started their ventures in the Valley. It seems the DSE is just trying to skip responsibility by making such comments. This is nothing but to fool people for vested interests as they are on forefront of getting admission f their wards in these elite schools. The fact is that the private schools are at liberty to make hike in the school fees as per their choice and have been given long rope to suck the blood of parents. The private schools have never been made accountable by the authorities fact of which is evident with the deviation of the circulars issued to private schools by the education department from time to time. The schools who flout the instructions should have been asked to close down their schools or should have faced de-recognition but alas they have been allowed to turn into big business establishments. It would be a welcome step and more appropriate for the interests of the general public if the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir himself intervenes and attends to the messy affairs of the private schools. Not only school managements but authorities of the school education department, who are hand in glove with them, need to be made accountable.
