SRINAGAR: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today said that the restrictions on his movement were a failed attempt to weaken the Kashmiri association towards Islamic teachings, freedom struggle, social reforms, and over all welfare of the people according to Islamic principles.
A spokesman of the Hurriyat (M) said that Mirwaiz was placed under house arrest. Quoting Mirwaiz, the Hurriyat (M) spokesman said that apart from restrictions on political activities, government was usurping the religious rights of Kashmiris.
Mirwaiz has said that inspite of hardships the people of Kashmir are committed to work for the realization of their rights, specifically the right to self determination at any cost.
Government on Friday once again resorted to dictatorial tactics by imposing undeclared curfew in many areas of Kashmir including Srinagar to stop mourners from taking out the Ashura processions and people from offering Nimaaz in Imambargahs and Masjids, Hurriyat (M) spokesman added.
He added that the police and other forces had also laid siege around Jamia Masjid to forcibly prevent people from not attend the Friday prayers.
As this was not enough, the authorities on the early Friday morning placed APHC Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest at his Nigeen residence. A large police contingent prevented Mirwaiz from leading the Friday prayers and his scheduled address at Alam Sahab (RA) Shrine Narwra thus directly interfering into his religious affairs and once again restricting his social, political and religious activities, the Hurriyat (M) spokesman added.
Quoting Mirwaiz, the Hurriyat (M) spokesman condemned the government for forcibly prohibiting Ashura processions in several areas, using wanton force against mourners, and restricting movement of religious leaders.
