SRINAGAR: Top Shia leader Maulana Muhammad Abbas Ansari today lambasted authorities for clamping curbs on major processions marking the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussain (AS) and his children and small band of companions in deserts of Karbala.
Addressing a series of mourning ceremonies on Ashura Maulana Ansari stressed on Muslims to keep the banner of Imam Hussain aloft by participating in ceremonies marking the occasion.
Earlier thousands took part in Ashura processions taken out under the banner of Ittehadul Muslimeen in Gund Khwaja Qasim, Hanjivera and Mirgund in Baramulla, Sarai-Dangerpora in Sumbal and Divsar in Kulgam district.
Maulana Abbas later addressed Majlis-e-Shami Ghariban at Astana Aalya Nabdipora in Zadibal.
Amid dimmed lights at the venue, Maulana Abbas read the majlis-e- Sham-e-Ghariban (the night following the day of Ashura) and related the events when the exhausted, hungry and tired families of Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions sat in loneliness, each thinking about the loved ones they had lost in the unjust battle on that day.
