PATTAN: Protests erupted in Palhalan area of this North Kashmir town on Monday after police arrested two youth for their alleged involvement in stone-pelting.
Police sources said that a group of youth had appeared on the Palhalan Highway to enforce shutdown in the area on Sunday. These youth were pelting stones on the police and other public vehicles and they smashed the windowpanes of scores of vehicles.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Kashmir, J.P.Singh told CNS that three youth indulging in stone-pelting were identified and two of them were arrested. The third youth is on run and we are going to book him soon, he said.
The two youth who were arrested have been identified as Showkat Ahmed Malik son of Ghulam Mohammad resident of Bhagat Mohalla, Palhalan and Wasim Gul son of Mohammad Ashraf Nadaf resident of Shah Mohalla.
We have booked these youth vide FIR number 224/2013 under sections 148, 149, 332, 427 and 307 of RPC, Singh said.
Meanwhile, the family members of the arrested youth alleged that police implicated their sons in false cases. They are innocent and never indulged in stone-pelting, one of the parents said.
