Shopian killings connected to Shalimar concert: Mian Qayoom
SRINAGAR: Jammu And Kashmir High Court Bar Association (JKHCBA) on Monday held protest rallies against the killings of four youth in Shopian and the continuous arrest spree by government.
The rally led by Bar President Mian Abdul Qayoom started from High Court to Press Enclave, Residency Road and later on culminated at the Sadder Court. Lawyers were chanting anti-government and pro-freedom slogans throughout the protest.
Speaking to the protesters Qayoom said the innocent killings that took place in Shopian were all done in the name of Zubin Mehtas music concert. We severely condemn the brutal and unprovoked killing of four innocent persons in Shopian and express solidarity and sympathy with the bereaved family and those injured in Pulwama incident, Mian Qayoom said.
He said Zubin Mehta had no right to come here as Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed territory. Till Kashmir issue is not resolved as per the wishes and aspirations of its people, we will continue to oppose such kind of events.
Terming Mehtas claims that he had come to Kashmir to bring peace as illogical Qayoom said peace in Valley will prevail only when the people of Kashmir will get freedom. Till freedom is not given to the people of Kashmir, Indian occupational forces are not withdrawn from Kashmir, there is no chance peace will prevail here, he said, adding that Indian as well as J&K Governments by resorting to such nefarious tactics can never suppress the freedom movement of Kashmiris.
He said the place where lacs of people have been martyred; thousands disappeared and put behind bars, holding such kind of events are totally uncalled for.
Lashing out at National Conference patron Dr. Farooq Abdullah over the statement that there would be no probe into such killings, Mian Qayoom warned of dire consequences if any action is not taken against the culprits of Shopian killings. We seek UN interference into this brutal massacre and demand severe punishment to the perpetrators.
Mian Abdul Qayoom further said: It is open to all that CRPF is involved in such terrorist act. Zubin Mehta is also indirectly involved and there should be enquiry against him also and those who invited him. If no action is taken against all those responsible for Shopian killings, we will take the task in our own hands and try our best to do justice to nation. (GNS)
