Srinagar – District Information Officer Udhampur. Dr. Jagdish Mehra Monday inaugurated the Inter-College chess tournament at government degree college Udhampur.
The event includes 26 matches in mens category of which three were played On Monday.
GDC Samba trounced GDC Ramnagar while GDC Akhnoor won over New Age College and MAM College defeated GDC Thanamandi. The teams of GDC Ploura, GCET Jammu, GDC Poonch, GDC Reasi and GDC Bhaderwah got the walk over.
In the women category, MIET defeated GCW Kathua whereas SPMR College of Commerce, GDC Reasi and GDC Kathua got a walk over.
Addressing the gathering, Mehra said that such type of events play a vital role for overall development of the students thus channelizing their energy in a right direction.
He appreciated the participating teams for their keen interest in the competition.
Principal, Dr. Nutan K. Resutra said such events which provide them an opportunity to display their talent and further chisel the fine sportspersons in them, he added.
