Condemns killing of 16-year-old in Doda
Srinagar: Expressing his deep shock and sorrow over the killing of a 16-year-old boy in Doda, chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani Wednesday demanded immediate disarmament and dissolution of the Village Defence Committee (VDC).
During last one week, after a young Muslim girl was gang-raped by VDC members in Kishtiwar , the consequent murder of young boy has proved that Omar Abdullah-led government does not want to annoy Jan Sang and has given them free hand, the octogenarian leader was quoted in a statement issued today.
He said that masked men who resort to stone pelting over the residential houses of Muslim community during nights in Kishtwar-Doda belt are obviously members of village defense committees who attack the passersby in broad daylight and loot their belongings.
Geelani alleged that the VDCs were terrorizing and harassing the local population. Under long term strategy RSS and Shiv Sena are hell-bent to force (Muslims) to migrate from the area and make it an area free from Muslim population, he said, adding, Village Defense Committees instead of following the instructions of administration, follow commandments and instructions from fanatical and sectarian sections and are trying to make their lives hell.
He apprehended that communal forces once again may repeat the 1947 like massacre and situation if Muslims Community of Jammu province is not provided proper security.
While referring to the news reports in some section, Syed Ali Geelani said that weapons are being collected in temples and some specified places in India and added that maintenance job for weapons is being assigned to specified people.
Geelani said VDC members are involved in serious crimes like rape, murder, extortion and added that they implicate youth in fabricated cases, detain them in prison and manage fake encounters to kill youth.
He also expressed his dismay and said that state police failed to develop sense of sense security among the local people and added Instead of taking action against the offenders, is providing them support.
Neither they have initiated any inquiry regarding the murder case nor are the killers arrested and brought to justice, he said, extending his condolences sympathies with the bereaved family.
Hurriyat Conference could have sent a delegation to express condolence however, for us the whole region has been prohibited and the administration never allow any pro-freedom leader to visit the area.
He stressed and urged human rights organizations and appealed to highlight the plight of Muslims in Jammu province and come forward and tell entire world that how people in this particular region were left at the mercy of communal forces and are being maltreated and how their lives have been made pitiable.
