Srinagar: Peoples Conference Chairman Sajad Lone has expressed grief at the deaths of two Kashmiri youth who were found dead in mysterious circumstances in Mumbai and Rajasthan. Terming these tragedies as inconsolable and heart rending, Sajad Lone has conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families of Pervez Ahmed Teli of Nawab Bazar, Srinagar and Abid Ahmed Ganai of Larsun, Ganderbal.
Stating that there is a palpable and justified perception in Kashmir of foul play, Sajad Lone said that it was the State Governments and the Ruling Alliances inescapable responsibility to thoroughly probe these deaths and seek elaborate case details from the local police and investigative agencies in Mumbai and Rajasthan. There is an added responsibility of the Congress leaders in J&K to use their direct and indirect clout to ensure justice is done in both these cases since both Rajasthan and Maharashtra have Congress-led governments. Rather than addressing self-marketing workers conventions and focusing singularly on 2014 polls, the Congress leaders in J&K should liaise with their counterparts in Rajasthan and Maharashtra to probe these cases. Unfortunately, it seems all that everyone, including the leaders of the ruling alliance are concerned about is issuing press statements of condolence and nothing further.
Expressing alarm at the growing sense of fear and anxiety among Kashmiris working and living in various parts of the country, Sajad Lone said that corrective, systemic steps need to be taken to address this ever-widening chasm of mistrust. Primarily, the Government of India, through various State Governments, should ensure that Kashmiris feel safe and systemically safeguarded in every nook and corner of the country. It is then of equal importance that tragic cases like that of Pervez Teli of Nawab Bazar, Srinagar and of Abid Ahmed Ganai of Larsun, Ganderbal be thoroughly investigated in a transparent, efficacious, and time-bound manner. Any unanswered questions, and the continued mystery that typically and unfortunately surrounds such cases, results in alienation and a sense of isolation in Kashmir. Kashmiri leaders, across the mainstream spectrum, who have extensive influence and contacts in Delhi and across the country, rather than feigning melodramatic sympathy in Kashmir, should lobby for corrective steps to be taken outside Kashmir.
