ISLAMABAD: PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, who is set to be Pakistan’s Prime Minister for a record third time, says that India and Pakistan should jointly address their fears.
Sharif on Monday invited Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his swearing-in ceremony.
However, sources said that India is likely to formally decline Sharif’s invitation to Manmohan. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has said that no formal invite has been received yet for Sharif’s swearing-in ceremony.
“Fears on your side, fears on our side – I think we should seriously address this,” Sharif said while speaking to CNN-IBN.
Meanwhile, sources said that India is likely to formally decline Nawaz Sharif’s invitation to Manmohan Singh.
Sources also say that Sharif may consider a visit to India soon even as a noted Pakistani journalist Ahmed Rashid said that Sharif will seek to wrest greater control over foreign policy from the army, especially policy towards India, Afghanistan and the US.
Sharif has already indicated his desire to normalise “roller-coaster” ties with India. During the campaign, 63-year-old Sharif had vowed to revive the Indo-Pak peace process which was interrupted in 1999 by the then military ruler Parvez Musharraf who ousted him in a bloodless coup.
