SRINAGAR: Court of Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kupwara has disqualified a Sarpanch from Halka, 270- Punzwa A, Ramhal for being a government employee and cheating the Presiding and Returning Officers at the time of filing of nomination papers.
The court in its order has maintained that Sarpanch Ghulam Hassan Wani son of Saif-u-Din Wani resident of Punzwa, Kupwara was neither eligible nor entitled to become a Sarpanch or contest the election, particularly for the reason that he was a Government Employee serving as a teacher in the Education Department.
It has been further averred and contended that the said Sarpanch has concealed the facts and has sworn a false affidavit in support of his candidature and after proper investigation he is being disqualified immediately and action needs to be initiated against him under J&K Pnachayti Raj Act, the order reads.
Pertinently, two applicants Mohammad Akbar Mir and Khazir Mohammad Bhat from Ramhal Kupwara had contested the claims of the said Sarpanch that he has resigned from the government job before being elected as Sarpanch of the area. (CNS)
