Mirwaiz Misses Iran Conclave

SRINAGAR: Hurriyat (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been officially invited to participate in the international conference, dubbed ‘Scholars and Islamic Awakening,’ which opened in Tehran on Monday.

Nearly 700 clerics and scholars from Muslim and non-Muslim countries are participating in the international conference. 

‘Islamic Awakening, challenges and opportunities’ as well as ‘Palestine and resistance against Israel’ are among the topics that will be highlighted during the event. The crisis in Syria will also be at the heart of the talks. 

Over the past few years, Iran has hosted several international conference on the Islamic Awakening such as ‘Islamic Awakening and Youth,’ ‘Women and the Islamic Awakening’ and ‘Muslim University Professors and Islamic Awakening.’ 

APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has accepted the invitation extended by the General Secretary of the organising body, Dr Ali Akbar Vilayati. 

However, Mirwaiz has been denied passport and other travel documents. The APHC Chairman has once again applied for the passport and travel documents with the issuing authorities.
