The Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) has decided to impart self defence training to female students so that they can counter eve-teasing and other physical assaults.
The training would be imparted under the Civic Action Programme of the Organisation, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Armed, Law and order K Rajendra Kumar said. In the first instance, 150 female students of ‘Kity Hawk Public School’ Srinagar would attend the training which started today, he said.
Mr Kumar said the training would be imparted by well-versed female police officers and services of international Wushu player Kuldeep Handoo and national Wushuplayer, Nissar Ahmed of JKP would also be utilised to acquaint the students with the skills of unarmed combat (UAC).
Similarly students from other educational institutions, including Boys Middle School Kareshibal, Girls Middle School Palapora, High School Baghi Dedmari, Girls Higher Secondary School Goripora and Rehmania Educational Institute Noorbagh, would attend the training programme.
He said more than 1,000 students of these educational institutions would be imparted training under the programme. Mr Kumar said the programme is being organised with an aim to make female students self-confident to face any challenge.
