JAMMU Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has said Kashmir is ripe for increased frequency of air services and could be more viable for private airline companies.
Mufti Sayeed was talking Willi senior executive of the Air Deccan Mr R Ramaswami who called on him here this morning to discuss possibilities of operating air services between Srinagar and Jammu. The Chief Minister said in view of the increased tourist inflow and disruption of road traffic on the National Highway during inclement weather, the rush for air passengers has increased several times. He said air travel to and from- Srinagar has become a necessity compared to the past, when it was considered a luxury of the wealthy only. Mufti Sayeed said he has taken up with the civil aviation ministry the need to increase frequency of air service to Srinagar add stressed on the opera-1 lion of additional flights also. He said private airlines like Air’ Deccan could operate viable air service between Srinagar and Jammu. Srinagar and Leh and Jammu and Leh. He asked the airline to also explore air service to Kargil and Rajouri. Ramaswami assured the Chief Minister that his airline would plan new services in view of the topographic and geographic difficulties in Jammu and Kashmir.
Later, Ramaswami had a meeting with Director. Civil Aviation, Mr. S. Katoch on the infrastructure availability at the three civil airports in Jammu and Kashmir.
