SRINAGAR A youth was killed and two other persons were injured in a mysterious blast at Tosamaidan meadow in Khag area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Sunday.
Sources said that an explosion occurred at Tosamaidian meadow area today afternoon. In the incident, three persons suffered injuries . They were taken to nearby Primary Health Centre from where doctors referred them to Srinagar hospital for specialised treatment, they said.
A youth identified as Wajid Bashir Ahanger of Zugwoo Khareen, Beerwah area of the district succumbed to injuries in Srinagar hospital.
The injured were identified as Mudasir Ahmad Ganie, Waseem Ahmad Ganie, residents of Zagoo Kharein.
SSP Budgam Tejinder Singh also confirmed the death of the youth and said that police has taken cognizance of the incident.
Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Sehrish Asgar said that a fresh advisory has been issued and people are requested not to fiddle with any shell or other suspected object if they find the same.
“We made announcements in local mosques and other places adjoining Tosamaidan and have urged people not to touch or fiddle with any suspected object in the area,” DC said.
The deputy commissioner said that a fresh clean-up drive will be taken up soon to see for any explosive devices in the area.
The deputy commissioner said that people would not be allowed to venture into the areas where the possibility of unexploded shells is more till the cleanup drive was complete.
3,000-acre meadow called Tosa Maidan that is as stunning as it is deadly because its tall, wild grass is littered with hundreds of shells discharged during 50 years of artillery drills by the Indian Army.
