SRINAGAR: Two days after a Sarpanch was gunned down in Sopre, suspected militants shot at and injured an elected panch in Bomie locality of the northern town on Saturday evening, a police spokesperson here said.
Some unknown militants fired upon and injured 45 years old Zooni Begum, an elected Panch, wife of Mohammad Ramzan Kumar resident of Dar Mohallah outside her house, in the jurisdiction of Police station Bomie. The injured lady was shifted to SKIMS, Soura for treatment. Police registered a case in this regard, the spokesperson said.
A panchayat leader was gunned down in Sopore on Friday in the first such attack in the New Year.
The gunmen shot 62-year-old Habibullah Mir several times in the neck at close range, and fled from the scene, reports said.
The heavily bleeding sarpanch was rushed to hospital by local residents, but succumbed to his injuries soon afterwards.
