HandwaraPolice on arrested a prayer leader of a local mosque and head of a Darul Uloom (religious school) in Kupwara allegedly on charges of rape.
The accused has been identified as Altaf Hussain Malik, a resident of Hayan Trehgam who according to police sources said was spotted by locals of Mawar village in a compromising position with a woman last night. He was beaten up ruthlessly before being handed over to police.
Malik, 35, has been leading prayers in a local mosque in Mawar village for past few years and is head of a Darul Uloom there, locals said.
Police have registered a case and taken up investigations.
