Edu official gets 2-year rigorous imprisonment

Srinagar—The Court of Special Judge Anti-Cor­ruption Srinagar presided by Yash Paul Bourney con­victed accused Muhammad Sidiq Raina , the then Se­nior Assistant, Zonal Edu­cation Office Kangan, and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for two years and also with a fine of Rs. 10,000.

The accused has to fur­ther undergo six months rigorous imprisonment for offence punishable under Section 161 RPC and in de­fault of payment of fine, the convict shall further un­dergo simple imprisonment of three months. Both the awarded sentences shall run concurrently.

It is in place to mention here that the accused pub­lic servant was caught red handed on August 8, 2009 while demanding and ac­cepting Rs one thousand as illegal gratification from one Mihammad Shafi Rather (Complainant) for preparing his Service Book. (CNS)
