SRINAGAR: Though mercury rose by a tiny fraction, sub-zero at cold continues its hold nights in Kashmir where the weather bureau has forecast no major change in the coming two days.
According to Aamir Ali, the coordinator of the disaster management cell in Kashmir, the valley, particularly its higher reaches could experience rainfall on January 12 and 13.
The precipitation may bring relief from the cold and dry conditions which leave a heavy layer of frost on the ground, and fringes of lakes and waterways frozen till late in the morning.
Maximum temperature in Srinagar had risen a couple of degrees above normal on Sunday, but the minimum was three degrees lower than the norm at this time of the year, the meteorological department said.
Mercury stood at a high of 7.9 degrees in Srinagar on Monday, and a low of minus 4.9 degrees, fractionally higher than the recording the previous night.
Doctors have advised children and the elderly not to move outdoors early in the morning and after sundown.
