ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Affairs Ministry on Monday summoned India’s Deputy High Commissioner in the country to register its protest on what it called an “unprovoked attack” along defacto border in Kashmir on Sunday.
Pakistan on Sunday had said Indian troops raided a military post in the Haji Pir sector of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, killing a soldier and injuring another.
The Indian Army however was reported as saying that it had responded to a “ceasefire violation” but did not cross the Line of Control.
In a media statement on Monday the Pakistani foreign office said, “The Deputy High Commissioner of India was called to the Foreign Office today and handed over a protest note on the unprovoked Indian attack on a Pakistani post in the Hajipir sector on January 06, 2013 which resulted in the Shahadat of a Pakistani soldier and injuries to the other.”
“The Indian Government was strongly urged to take appropriate measures to avoid recurrence of such incidents in future,” it added.
The Indian army however had said the firing was a retaliation to shelling from Pakistan’s side that destroyed a home on this side of the border in Uri sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
Pakistan meanwhile had said Indian troops had “physically raided a checkpost named Sawan Patra”, killing one of its soldiers and severely injuring another.
Skirmishes in Kashmir are not uncommon between the two nuclear-armed neighbours who have fought three wars over the disputed territory since gaining independence.
