HandwaraA football tourney organised by Department of Youth Services and Sports in collaboration with Bungus Valley Soccer Organization and DFO Soil Conservation Division Langate in picturesque Bungus Valley turned out to be a huge hit, a statement from DYSS media wing said.
The tournament-first of its kind-was played in Bakiaker ground Handwara.
The tournament was a great success and attracted a huge rush of spectators due to the untiring efforts of Organisers. People from all walks of life witnessed different matches of the sports extravaganza, the statement read.
The final match of the tournament was played on the intervening night of September 18 and 19.
More than 20 thousand people, the statement said, made their presence in the grand finale of the soccer tourney.
This competition was organized in order to uplift the standard of sports in the District. In the competition 32 teams hailing from both in and outside the district participated with great pomp and show, and displayed sportsmanship spirit, the statement read.
The final match of the competition was played under lights between Saber Ushkara Baramulla and Mamdan Sports Sopore where the latter scripted title glory in the penalty shootout.
Director Youth Services & Sports J&K Shiekh Fayaz Ahmad was the chief guest on the valedictory function of the tournament. Among other dignified personalities Prem Sukh Kataria from Mumbai, Ab Rashid Bhat DFO Soil Conservation Division Langate, Haji Gh Hassan Mir District Youth Services & Sports Officer Kupwara, Mumtaz Ahmad District Social Welfare Officer Kupwara, Zameer Ahmad Thakur president Foot Ball Association J&K and Sajid Yousf Dar Foot Ball Coach were also present on the occasion.
