SrinagarLeft arm spinner Waseem Raza showed yet again his credentials as a leading spinner going around, getting a six-wicket haul to take his side Islamia College Alumni team to semi-finals of Prof. Yousuf Memorial Inter College Cricket Cup. Thanks to Raza heroics, Islamia College Alumni side beat Gandhi Memorial College by four wickets.
In the last quarter final of the tournament Gandhi Memorial college captain won the toss and decided to bat first. The team had a wonderful start when they were cruising with score reading 96 in 10 overs for the loss of one wicket. But introduction of Raza pegged them as J&K spinner took six wickets giving away just 15 runs to bowl out Gandhi Memorial for 151 in the 23rd over. Shahid Asrar also took three crucial wickets for 18 runs in 4.5 overs. For Gandhi College Amir Suhail scored 68 runs off 38 balls and Arif Shan scored a 38-ball 30.
Alumni team achieved the target of 152 in 23.4 overs with the loss of 6 wickets. Moosa scored 47 runs off 45 balls while Raees made a rapid 36 off 16 balls.
For Gandhi College Adil Rash took four wickets and Shakeel bagged two wickets.
Today, the Alumni team will face GDC Ganderbal in the first semifinal and on Thursday Amar Singh College will play against the host college team in the second semifinal.
The tournament is being organised by the department of Physical Education Islamia College Srinagar.
