HandwaraGovernment Degree College Handwara teachers Wednesday alleged that they were thrashed by security force personnel, who according to them barged into the college and targeted students as well as staff.
According to teachers, government forces resorted to indiscriminate tear-smoke shelling after the students staged a protest against the killing of a student from the college in a fake encounter recently.
Pertinently, Shahid Bashir Mir was killed by Army in alleged fake encounter in Hefdara forest of Handwara town in North Kashmirs Kupwara district.
Scores of students amid pro-freedom slogans staged a protest and demanded action against the army personnel responsible for his killing. However, Government Forces swung into action and fired tear-gas shells to disperse the protesting students.
There was chaos and confusion. During the melee several students were wounded, said a teacher adding that government forces manhandled many teachers of the college.
MLA Condemns Handwara Incident
Condemning assault on teachers and students at Degree College Handwara at the hands of security forces today, AIP Supremo and MLA Langate Er. Rasheed has said that students and teachers have every right to mourn death of Shahid Bashir, who was student of the same college.
In a statement issued today Er. Rasheed said May govt. explain what was its policy to handle the situation after Shahid Bashirs killing other than closing down all the education institutions in the entire district to stop protests against the killing. By doing so administration has proved that it has no regrets over the killing and doesnt care if educational institutions would remain closed for weeks together, thus proving that Govt. is deliberately playing with the carrier of the students.
There is no justification of using force against students inside college complex at Handwara and ruthlessly disgracing and beating teachers in a shameful manner. Students were within their rights and limits to protest over the killing of their colleague and Govt. rather booking the army personnel involved in the killing seems to have turned so sense less that it didnt want even Kashmiris to mourn death of their beloved ones.
Er. Rasheed added that the security forces need to mend their behavior and understand that if they want people to feel pain of their colleagues in uniform, who get attacked in various incidents, then need to give respect and dignity to common masses and also realize that people have every right to express the anger against atrocities and innocent killings.
