Applicants await permission from govt for building houses

Srinagar—The government has kept awaited hundreds of residents living under the Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) for building their houses as it is yet to grant them permission.

The resident applicants said the they being dragged from one office to another in the administration and the government is not taking a final decision about permission and conversion rates.

They said that Building Operations Controlling Authority (BOCA) has given building permission to scores of people, however, LAWDA is demanding conversion fee from them.

“We are ready to pay the conversion rate, but LAWDA is not telling us how much we have to pay. We want to do everything legally but LAWDA is forcing us to resort to illegal means,” locals said.

They said that they have already obtained building permission from Building Operations Controlling Authority.

LAWDA officials said that the cases have been sent to the government’s high level committee for taking a final decision on the permission and conversion rates.

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone told KNS said the conversion rates for Aabi-e-Awwal etc land are already fixed but no applicant has been given any permission.

“No permission for building or construction has been given to any one yet as the decision will be taken after approval of the Revenue Minister. A District High Level Committee has been framed for it that will take a decision which will be sent to the Divisional Commissioner and then Revenue Minister will take a call on it,” Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone told KNS.

VC LAWDA Abdul Hafiz Shah said that the High Level committee of the government is yet to take a final decision on permission. “We are awaiting the final permission from the government,” he said. (KNS)
