SRINAGAR: The sports infrastructure in Srinagars Nishat area got a major flip Thursday with Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti allotting 30 kanals of land for the sports activities in the suburbs of the city, a statement from Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council said.
Mehbooba, who heads the JKSSC, as per the statement, had directed the revenue department for allotting the custodian land to Sports Council, who are all set to develop a stadium for the aspiring sportspersons of Nishat and adjoining areas.
The statement said that a delegation of youth had requested the chief minister for the allocation of the land in Brein Nishat for sports activities which prompted Mufti to direct Sports Council officials to secure it.
The locals told the Chief Minister about the vacant land and also informed her that the said land might be turned into a residential colony by allotting it to some persons. The Chief Minister took immediate action and took up the matter with the concerned department, the statement said.
As of now, Zabarwan Premier League is being played at the venue which has seen massive interest among the cricketers and cricket nerds.
Secretary Sports Council Waheed ur Rehman Parra said that the step was taken keeping in view the demand of the local youth.
Apart from developing existing fields we are also looking into add new playing fields for the youth, he said.
