SRINAGAR: With the focus shifting towards South Kashmir for the Wednesday polls, tensions have surged in the entire constituency comprising of four districts of Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam and Shopian.
Reports from the district headquarters said that a a complete shutdown virtually paralyzed life with no trace of electioneering.
A government middle school, designated as a polling station, went up in flames during the night hours in Padder village of Shopian district.
A gang barged into the residence of Sheraz Ahmad in Sugan and damaged his house. Ahmad has been an ex-Sarpanch of the belt. Earlier he was shot at in his leg making him flee home.
Firing shots were heard in Tukru village of Shopian late last night sparking panic in the area.
A similar incident was reported on Sunday when firing shots were heard outside the police station Yaripora in Kulgam. There was no loss of life or any property damage.
South Kashmi Lok Sabha constituency is going to polls on Wednesday. The contest is between Tasduq Mufti of PDP and Ghulam Ahmad Mir of Congress. The latter is supported by NC.
