SRINAGAR: J&K unit of Congress on Wednesday alleged that the PDP-BJP coalition government has failed to provide secure atmosphere for campaigning for by-poll for two seats of Lok Sabha in Valley.
He charged the PDP-BJP government of creating volatile and insecure atmosphere in the valley for manipulating voting for their candidates.
Government wants boycott of the by-polls so that people wont come out for voting and it (government) manipulates voting to favour their candidates, Taj said in a press conference in Anantnag today.
The government has imposed election on us in such a volatile situation. But will fight against them and wont run away, he said.
The Congress leader said that the opposition political parties were trying to create an atmosphere for elections and added that the government is disturbing the situation.
Our workers are terrified, even I feel terrified. Situation is not right for elections…..When killings occur, Chief Ministers cavalcade is pelted with stones, how can our workers got out and campaign, he said.
We appeal the Election Commission of India to provide security and peaceful atmosphere for elections.
By-polls are to be held on April 9 and 12 for two Lok Sabha seats of Anantnag and Srinagar, comprising 31 assembly segments. (KNS)
6 Candidates In Fray For Anantnag
SRINAGAR: According to the Returning Officer, Anantnag-3 Parliamentary Constituency, out of 7 candidates whose nominations were found valid for contesting the bye-elections as per the provisions of the People Representation Act 1951, Mohammad Yaseen Paswal an Independent candidate has withdrawn his candidature on Wednesday, the last day of withdrawal of nomination papers.
After Paswals withdrawal, six candidates including Ghulam Ahmad Mir of INC-NC (joint candidate), Mufti Tassaduq of PDP, Sanjay Kumar Dhar of Rashtriya Samajwadi Party (S), Ghulam Mohammad Wani of All J&K Kissan Mazdoor Party, and Independent candidates, Rakesh Koul and Sajad Ahmad Dar are now in fray for Anantnag Parliamentary seat which is going to polls on April 12, 2017 in which 1327638 voters are exercising their right to vote, an official spokesperson said.
5 Anantnag Polling Stations Relocated
According to District Election Officer Anantnag, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, location of five polling stations for forthcoming Anantnag Parliamentary bye-polls has been changed in the district after the approval of Election Commission of India.
Accordingly, voters, political parties and contesting candidates to the Parliamentary constituency are informed that polling station 25-Zadipora has been shifted to new location at Government Water Works Division Khanabal and 64-Kharpora has been shifted to MS Kharpora, an official spokesperson said.
Similarly, 65-Kharpora polling station has been shifted to PS Jiabal Kharpora, 47-Badigam has been shifted to GMS Badaran and 62-Salia-A has been shifted to PS Ganiegund.
