JAMMU: Chairperson of State Human Rights Commission Mr Justice Bilal Nazki took suo-moto cognizance of a news item published in different dailies on 6 March 2017 regarding death of a person engaged by a contractor on behalf of Power Development Department (PDD) on 05.03.2017 in Budshah Chowk area of Srinagar,.
According to a statement issued by SHRC, the matter was listed before the Commission on 10.03.2017 and an order was passed.
Hilal Ahmed Xen PDD has filed the report of Chief Engineer M&RE Kashmir. We have perused the report, it appears that a police case has been filed and departmental enquiry also initiated. The Commission hopes that the departmental enquiry will be concluded as early as possible, the SHRC statement reads.
It further reads that PDD is ready to pay an amount of Rs 1 lakh as interim relief as directed by the Commission to the family of deceased. However the Executive Engineer seekers clarification as to whether amount could be given to any specific member of deceaseds family or his legal heirs.
It is admitted that the deceased has left behind a widow and three children; therefore, we direct that the amount of Rs 1 lakh be paid to deceaseds wife. The department shall submit copy of the report of enquiry as soon as it is available. Executive Engineer further informed that the person who received injuries is in Hospital and is being taken care of. His condition is stable, the SHRC order states. (PTK)
