Srinagar: On the International Human Rights Day, the United Nations March call given by the unified resistance leadership Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik who had to present a memorandum was once again sabotaged by the government with its dictatorial tactics, by continuing to keep the resistance leadership under house arrest and using excessive force on peaceful marches that were heading toward the UN Office.
In a statement issued to press, terming the prevention of peaceful protest marches even on the International Human Rights Day as the biggest human rights violation, an Hurriyat (M) spokesman said while the entire world was observing the day in respect of human rights, the same rights were being torn to shreds even on this day in Kashmir.
The spokesman said on the International Human Rights Day that is celebrated on December 10 every year, Hurriyat (M) leaders and workers including senior Hurriyat leader Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi, Muhammad Shafi Khan, Advocate Yasir Rouf Dalaal, Farooq Ahmad Saudagar, Sahil Ahmad War, Abdul Rashid Tanki, Advocate Moulvi Muhammad Ashraf, Javed Ahmad Zargar and Abdul Majeed Wani led a peaceful protest march from Jamia Masjid, Srinagar but as the protestors reached Khawaja Bazaar near Naqshband Sahabs shrine, police and government forces pounced upon them and used brutal force on the protestors to stop them from heading toward the UNMOGIP office at Sonawar.
According to the Hurriyat (M) spokesman, another peaceful protest march led by senior Hurriyat leader, Engineer Hilal Ahmad War, who broke out of his house arrest, was taken out from Maisuma area of Srinagar, which was also sabotaged by the government forces by using excessive force on the peaceful protestors.
Meanwhile, an APHC spokesman condemned the house arrest of veteran resistance leader Syed Ali Geelani, Hurriyat (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, senior Hurriyat leaders Mukhtar Ahmad Waza and Hurriyat (M) Media Advisor Advocate Shahid-ul-Islam and placing restrictions and curbs of their activities.
The spokesman said the ruling class and the government forces were crossing all limits of tolerance and urged the international community and international rights bodies to take note of gross human rights violations across Kashmir and take steps to stop state terrorism in Kashmir.
The APHC spokesman urged the international rights bodies to take strong note of the killings and injuries, arrests and house arrests, raids and crackdowns, beating up of people and ransacking of houses in Kashmir and come to the rescue of unarmed Kashmiris who were at the receiving end of naked aggression and gross human rights violations perpetuated by the government forces.
The memorandum that was to be presented at the United Nations Military Observers Group for India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) by the unified resistance leadership at Sonwar is attached herewith. (KNS)
