Srinagar: The state government on Monday said that no school has been closed across the Jammu and Kashmir but nearly 4000 schools in the state have been clubbed.
Education Minister Naeem Akhtar informed the upper House that no school has been closed across the state. However, to improve the quality of Education by providing adequate number of teachers and infrastructure, number of schools have been clubbed, Akhtar said in a written reply to the question of National Conference Leader and MLC Qaiser Jamsheed Lone.
He said that 2406 schools were clubbed in Kashmir while in Jammu 1498 schools were clubbed. Most of the schools clubbed were housed in rented buildings. The government owned buildings spared in the process are proposed to be used for other activities of school education department including Adult literacy Centres as well as libraries, Naeem sad.
Akhtar said that out of 2406 schools which were clubbed, 1834 schools were housed in rented buildings while only 920 were government owned buildings, adding that 3553 teachers have been spared in Kashmir.
Meanwhile, the education Minister said that there is no proposal of reorganizing of educational zones or creation of new zones during the current financial year 2016-17.
