JAMMU: Former Jammu and Kashmirt deputy chief minister Nirmal Singh said that the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has not put any condition of rotational chief minister before the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He said things are likely to be cleared very soon.
We havent put any preconditions. These are baseless speculations. The talks havent started formally but we are hopeful things will be cleared very soon, the former deputy CM said.
According to certain media reports, the BJP has put conditions before the PDP on government formation in J-K. The reports also suggest that the PDP, too, has put the condition that there should not be any post of deputy chief minister.
The political speculations are rife about the possibility of PDP breaking an alliance with the BJP and forming government with the Congress. Congress president Sonia Gandhi had met Mehbooba Mufti at her residence in Srinagar to mourn the death of her father and former chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Sunday.
The formal talks havent started as it was mourning period and Mehbooba Mufti was still in shock. We are hopeful for the continuation of the agenda-of-alliance. Though, when there is a change in leadership, the new leader can bring in some changes, said J&K Assembly speaker Kavinder Gupta.
However, the Congress has declined to offer any support to the PDP. We havent offered any kind of policial support to the PDP, said Pradesh Congress Committee president GA Mir.
After the death of Mufti Sayeed, the PDP is left with 27 MLAs. While the Congress has 12 MLAs in the state, the two parties fall short of five MLAs to reach the halfway mark of 44.
The speculations are also on that the Congress is trying to get support of the three independent MLAs. However, independent MLA Engineer Rashid said he was not approached by the Congress.
