SRINAGAR: Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad dismissed the speculations of Congress aligning with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to form a new government in Jammu & Kashmir.
Following the death of reigning chief minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, rumours are doing the rounds within valleys political circles that the heir of the deceased leader, Mehbooba Mufti may choose to break the eight-month long coalition with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
We have neither thought of forming Government with them (PDP) nor we have any such intention. It was our duty to express condolences and share their grief keeping in view Mufti jis association with Congress and partys leadership, Azad said.
The meeting between Sonia Gandhi and Mehbooba Mufti was looked with great speculation, with many political commentators opining that it was beyond sharing condolence on part of the Congress President.
However, downplaying any political significance of the meet, Azad said, It was our duty to express condolences and share their grief keeping in view Mufti jis association with Congress and partys leadership.
Although the deceased Mufti was firm on aligning with the right-wing BJP, her daughter was skeptical, fearing the loss of consolidated Muslim votes of the valley. There are chances that she may explore other options, since the Governors rule has been imposed in the J&K, following the sudden death of Mufti Sayeed.
